The Junior Officers’ in Standard Chartered were unethically forced out from JO grade to Assistant Officer (AO) grade.
This tantamount to forced labour and it is an offence in Malaysia.
The right to join a Union of your choice is a universal human rights and is a right enshrined in our Federal Constitution.
Malaysia has also ratified International Labour Convention 98 which prevents employers from interfering in the rights of the workers. Yet, there are some Banks that deliberately work hard to violate this right and we hope SCB does not dirty their hands with such mischief.
NUBE has written to the Chief Executive Officers (CEO) of Standard Charted via email about this and we hope that he will act immediately to ensure Social Dialogue is resurrected in SCB Malaysia for industrial harmony.
We hope the CEO will protect these workers’ rights with immediate effect.
