SHAH ALAM – Tambahan tempoh cuti bersalin bagi kakitangan swasta dari 60 ke 90 hari meringankan beban ibu bersalin.
Presiden Kongres Kesatuan Sekerja Malaysia (MTUC), Abdul Halim Mansor berkata, penambahan cuti itu, sekali gus dapat mempromosikan penyusuan susu ibu secara eksklusif di negara ini.
“Lebih sedekad MTUC memperjuangkan hak pekerja wanita agar kerajaan mempertimbangkan melanjutkan tempoh cuti bersalin bagi sektor swasta,” katanya.
Mengulas lanjut mengenai pandangan sesetengah pihak yang tidak bersetuju dengan cuti tambahan tersebut, Abdul Halim menyifatkan ia sebagai tidak bertanggungjawab.
“Alasan tersebut seolah-olah menggambarkan mereka tidak berperikemanusiaan. Hanya memikirkan soal kerugian yang dihadapi majikan dan mengabaikan tanggungjawab sosial,” katanya.
Katanya, mengikut perkiraan pemberian cuti bersalin (60 hari) yang diamalkan ketika ini, bagi lima anak, seorang wanita memperoleh 300 cuti bersalin keseluruhan.
Bagi pengiraan cuti bersalin baharu, seorang pekerja wanita boleh mendapat cuti bersalin sehingga 360 hari.
