Mr. Mukhtar Malik Hussain, the highest-ranking officer of HSBC Bank Bhd has started a new week by adding another violation to his list of violations, with regards to the Occupational Safety Act 1994 – Safety and Health Committee Regulations 1996, Part V.
He has breached Regulation 29 of the Act whereby he failed to provide the members of a safety and health committee with the adequate training in occupational safety and health so as to enable them to perform the functions of the committee effectively.
First, the Bank failed to hold the meetings according to the requirement of the law.
Second, they fail to provide the minutes of the meeting to the Committee members after each meeting as required by the law.
Then, failed to provide the Committee members the necessary training in occupational and health so as to enable them to perform their functions effectively.
A person who is found not having complied with the above regulations shall be guilty of an offense and upon conviction, shall be liable to a fine not exceeding five (5) thousand Ringgit or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or both. This is stated under Regulations 32 of the OSH Act.
The CEO is directly responsible for the proper and effective function of the OSH Committee in order to ensure the health and safety of the workers in HSBC Bank (M) Bhd.
