The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indonesian Workers Trade Union Confederation (KSPSI) and National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE), marks a much awaited cross-border workers’ solidarity between the two countries.

KSPSI President, Bro Andi Gani Nena Wea and Secretary General Bro Hermanto Achmad and NUBE President Bro Tan Eng Hong and General Secretary Bro J Solomon signed the MoU that will strengthen ties between the unions from the two neighbouring countries with improved communications and open dialogues, especially on common issues.

During the discussions at NUBE House, Bro Andi had expressed the importance of exchange of knowledge and publications especially toward strengthening workers’ movements from both countries.

Bro Tan explained that the signing marked the commitment from unions in working more closely towards the pursuit of industrial harmony in their respective countries.

Also present at the signing ceremony from KSPSI was its Vice President, Bro Idris Palar and from NUBE was Deputy President, Bro Abdul Jamil Jalaludeen, Vice President Sis Laila Nor Akma Abdullah, Assistant General Secretary Sis A. Karuna and members of its executive council Bro Mohd Faisal Husin and Bro Mohd Rahmat Abd Hamid.

This MoU marked a new milestone for unions from both countries as Bro Solomon expressed the need for capacity building programmes for workers who will also benefit from trade union work experiences exchanged between Malaysians and Indonesians.

To kick-off this initiative, the NUBE Executive Council will attend the momentous 45th Anniversary of KSPSI this February in Indonesia.

Without pausing to rest, the counterparts have already marked their calendars for the first exchange programme to be held as soon as March this year at the NUBE Training Centre in Port Dickson with the participation of 15 delegates from KSPSI and NUBE respectively.

NUBE Committees and IRCs can look forward to experience learning at a new horizon.
