Situasi graduan baru di negara ini menjadi penghutang sebelum mereka boleh mendapatkan pekerjaan hanya kerana memperoleh kelayakan akadamik adalah sesuatu yang tidak boleh diterima.
Pendidikan adalah hak asasi manusia dan generasi masa depan negara perlu dipupuk dan disediakan akses yang sewajarnya kepada peluang-peluang terbaik untuk belajar sehingga ke peringkat pendidikan tinggi tanpa kebimbangan kewangan. Terutama bagi mereka yang tidak mampu agar mereka tidak ketinggalan, ada akses kepada pendidikan yang berkualiti dan tidak memikul beban hutang selepas menamatkan pengajian. Inilah tanggungjawab setiap kerajaan.
MTUC menuntut kerajaan yang akan datang supaya menghapuskan pembayaran balik kepada Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) bagi setiap pelajar yang ibu bapa yang berada dalam kategori pendapatan bawah B40 dan M40 (bawah RM10,000.00 sebulan) sebagai langkah untuk bergerak ke depan demi kepentingan negara.
Perkara ini merupakan salah satu aspek teras dalam 21 Tuntutan Pekerja MTUC yang dikemukakan menjelang Pilihan Raya Umum ke-14 Malaysia.
