The conduct of the CEO of Bank Muamalat, Dato’ Hj Redza, is extremely paranoid in the sense that he un-hesitantly resorted to cheat, mislead and flout law of the land to throw out of jobs, the lowest income earning workers, causing misery to their very livelihood.
Such dishonourable and corrupt traits of victimisation and union busting, is inconsistent with the Vision, Mission and Noble Islamic Values of Bank Muamalat.
Is such a character of nature permissible to hold the CEO position in an Islamic Bank?
The Islamic Financial Services Act 2013 has clearly defined among others in Section 69 on the ‘Fit and proper requirements’ compliance by a Chairman, Director, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or Senior Officers which includes minimum criteria relating to (a) probity, personal integrity and reputation.
Section 70 of the Islamic Financial Services Act 2013 expressly authorises Bank Negara Malaysia to cease Dato’ Hj Redza or any such personality with deplorable behaviour in order to protect the image of the Islamic financial institutes in Malaysia.
Accordingly, it is vested with the Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia to ensure that CEOs and Senior Officers of the financial institutes conduct their businesses with the highest level of moral behaviour to acquire the confidence of the public.
Good governance will see minimum corrupt Senior Officers in banking practices which will reduce income disparity for Malaysians and will promote patriotism to Malaysians of all walks of life.
