There are approximately 733 trade unions registered currently in Malaysia with a total membership of 901,499. Out of which 480 are from the private sectors, 146 from Government sectors and 107 from the Statutory bodies.
Between 2009 to 2013 there were 272 Unions unfortunately today we only have 212 Unions and out of which only 135 Unions are in benefit.
Some Unions left MTUC for various reasons and others are hesitating to join MTUC because MTUC has lost it direction.
In trade unions, the bigger the membership the stronger the bargaining power for the workers, above all it gives a sense of strength that makes MTUC stronger to fight in the best interest of the workers.
Therefore, there is a dire need for MTUC to organise workers to form more Unions in Malaysia.
Having seen the weakness in organising and recruitment of trade union in this country under one umbrella known as MTUC and develop the workers to form/join trade unions, therefore, it is the priority of the BARISAN MANTAP MTUC when elected, to bring back all Unions that left MTUC and work on organising and recruitment to join MTUC. This will culminate in a united workers’ force for louder workers’ voice.
BARISAN MANTAP MTUC Leadership also pledges to increase its affiliates by a minimum of 50% in the next three years. Further, a strategic education policy will be implemented for workers.
Long Live MTUC; Long Live Workers
